August 26, 2019 represents an important day in American history – it is 99th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that essentially gave women the right to vote all across the country. Women all over the world deserve to be celebrated. Yesterday was #WomensEqualityDay and we would like to celebrate all the women around the world in over 70 countries that Kompass is located in.  We celebrate our female leaders – the Michelle Obamas, the Oprahs, the Angela Merkels and the Malala Yousafzais . We celebrate the young, the future as well as the old, the past. Women are strong and we are more than 50 percent of the world.

Yet, women do not represent 50 percent of CEOs, engineers,  doctors or of businesses overall.  There are only 27 female CEOs in the Fortune top 500 companies. This may seem odd as women drive around 75 percent of consumer consumption. While women still have a long way to climb, facts are on our side.  The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology published a new paper called The Case for Investing in Women which details the impact women have on business.  Their paper draws the conclusion that hiring women and having a more diverse workplace leads to success! Think about it, when you have a group of ten men making a decision you are missing the view point and the opinion of over 50 percent of the population. Diversity is key to growing!  The more diversity you have to pull from, the wider range of ideas and solutions you will come up with.

Some of Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology’s finding were:

  • Increase Women, Increase ROI
  •  Fortune 500 companies with at least 3 women directors saw return on invested capital increase by at least 66% , return on sales increase by at lease 42% and average return on equality increase by at least 53%
  • A 2012 study on women’s participation in IT patents found that patents with mixed gender teams were cited 30% to 40% more than similar patents with all-male teams.
  • Women are critical for innovation!

Happy #WomensEqualityDay to all the business women out there! Kompass North America is proud to celebrate women around the world. Contact us to learn more about Kompass services.
